Patience Needed in Florida Birth Certificate Policy Change

Policy Still Under Review, Not Finalized

PRESS RELEASE - We wish to clarify what is happening with regard to transsexual and intersex people and Florida's birth certificate policy.

While positive developments are underway, a new policy is still being finalized. The Department of Health is currently working to review and rewrite its policy in a professional and responsible manner using up-to-date information. The process will not be complete for several weeks, and patience is urged.

We respectfully request that additional media alerts or emails notifying people about the proposed policy change are withheld until after the policy has been finalized.

The Department has not yet run the proposed policy by their legal counsel yet, however they have begun to relook at applications submitted in the past, so continue to have patience in this and please don't flood DOH with calls.
