New Transgender Documentary: Almost Myself
A gay man's journey to explore and gain some understanding of what it means to be transgender.
5/7/2006
Inspired by a chance visit to an unusual website, the filmmaker has been working on the project for nearly two years. While the web site would offer a rather peculiar venture into the transgender community, the film largely contains a number of candid, informative and often poignant conversations with a number of transgender women, mostly over age 40. Participants in the film include author/performer/activist Kate Bornstein, Holly Boswell who is known for her thoughts dealing with spirituality and the transgender experience, Rosalyne Blumenstein author of Branded T, and sex reassignment surgeon Dr. Marci Bowers from Trinidad Colorado. Singer/songwriter Georgie Jessup whose music is used as a backdrop in the film, also speaks about her journey along with several other women.
The film is set to screen at NEWFEST of Sunday, June 11th, at 5:45 PM. Screenings take place at the AMC Loews Cineplex located on 34th street near 8th Avenue in New York City. The filmmaker will be present and will participate in a Q&A following the screening. Ticket information will be available at the NEWFEST site: http://www.newfest.org
DVD copies of the film will go on sale later this summer. More information about the film including a brief video preview and updates are available on the films site: www.almostmyself.com
